The ancients classed all literature into the following:
- Rhetoric
- Law
- Epic
- Tragedy
- Comedy
- Lyric Poetry
- History
- Medicine
- Mathematics
- Natural Science
Obviously there are some works which parts fall into many genres, & others which are altogether extraordinary.
This is a catalogue of my personal library. Recommendation of translations prioritize: being based on majority text types, i.e non-critical; & use archaic—or older—language, which is less demeaned. But considered also, of course, is the character of the translators.
My use of Wade-Giles is not an endorsement of Taiwanese independence, but rather, follows the traditional English spelling of Chinese.
